Blackbird
Vintage dress and shorts. Target socks. Forever 21 sneakers.
It may be a bit hard to believe, but while I've been away from this blogging thing, I've grown accustomed to sneakers. I mean, I've worn Chuck Taylors before, but not, like, sneaker sneakers. Yes. I love them. I've worn them here with a vintage dress over shorts to get Bruxie waffle sandwiches with Ali yesterday. I am really loving the whole long top proportion deal so much I've infused vintage dresses into my wardrobe (but, of course, not in an obvious way.) Feeling a bit sci-fi-ish here.

Lite Brite
Express shirt. Vintage skirt and shoes. Target socks.
Although my main wardrobe selections have been predominantly black lately, I still do love color. I mean, even someone drowing in a black Haider Ackermann confection can still truly appreciate a Jil Sander neon blazer. I recently had Raf Simons visions of an all pink skirted ensemble with black socks/shoes in my mind so I decided to hunt the components down on my own. Some vintage searching over a period of time lead me to a longer silhoutette then Simons's, but that same in-your-face color and shock. I wore it out to my friend's 22nd birthday as well as to a "quiet" Monday night at another friend's house. There is definitely more color coming... even a dark horse likes feel the sun sometimes.

Man In Skirt
H&M sweater. Vintage skirt. Cole Haan motorcycle boots.
I've been really into the idea of the men's skirt lately. I've been wearing them a lot for night (this look is a combination of outfits I've worn this past weekend and the weekend before.) I've actually been wanting to wear a ton of black lately. I think Rick Owens is to blame for this.

Flourescent Beige
Vintage blazer and sweater. BDG beanie.
No joke, I've had this hat since my freshman year of high school. The other day, I was totally thinking about it after looking at Tommy Ton's beautiful photos of fashion insiders on the street wearing all neutrals with bright, bright colors and wondered if I still had it. I dug it up and wore it the next day.. and the next. I'm really loving that whole chic-ski look, with wintery prints and knits (and it's March..) In other news, John Galliano on an anti-semitic rant.. WTF! Gaga Born This Way video.. Epic. And just watched the Balenciaga show.. Amazing!

Fur At Prada
All photos via Style.com.
Finally, a collection that knocked my socks off. And, of course, it was Prada. Miuccia Prada can do no wrong in my eyes. She is truly beyond fashion. I feel like anything that has ever been on a runway of hers could be in a museum. She is amazing. In this specific collection, she played with elements of serpents, animals, mermiads, and skiers. It was genius. The photos I've selected for this post don't even begin to give the entire collection justice. But the fur... The fur is what got me. It went from your typical fox scarf thingy to downright faux/wierd/geniusness.
Can't wait for Paris!

Patriot
Vintage Levi's jacket. F21 striped t-shirt.
I've sort of been hunting for the perfect sheepskin-lined denim jacket forever (that's the 70's midwestern American in me) and finally found one at the President's Day half off sale at my favorite thrift store. I paired it with this great t-shirt from Forever 21 I got a few months ago as well as skinny black jeans and my trusty Sperry Top-Siders.

Hunter Gatherer
Vintage jacket and sweater. Dollhouse jeans. Sperry top-siders. F21 sunglasses.
Expanding on a criteria of outfitting that I like to call "lumberjack off-duty." I try to find every excuse to wear this sweater.. The color to me is just incredible. Like, shocking red. I find that a lot of the inspiration that I have these days comes from not so much of what people are wearing but how. I love seeing odd color combinations and eccentric uses of texture. I mean, I've always been into these things but I guess I'm just really realizing it now. Or maybe just reaffirming it.

Trench
Vintage trench coat and t-shirt. H&M trousers. Converse All-Star sneakers.
My new favorite thing to wear is this great vintage trench coat. I've wanted one for quite some time now, it's just such a classic and timeless piece. Also so much fun to play with. I've sort of been living in these sneakers lately. They, too, are classics and I feel like wearing them whenever I've got something proper on, like a blazer and trousers. They always add a bit of adventure.
On to other things.. Fashion Week: I haven't had the time to thoroughly go through all the NY shows that have just poured in from Style.com yet.. Alexander Wang's giant black coats were amazing, loving Marc Jacobs's latex things and patent leather wedge boots. Can't wait to see what Paris has in store.

Givenchy A/W 2011 Details
Photos via Style.com
I must admit that I am a total and utter slave to Givenchy... Well, I'm a total and utter slave to Riccardo Tisci. Everything he touches turns to genius gothic-catholic-gender-bending-skinhead gold. There is nothing he has designed that I wouldn't consider wearing. This fall's show was, in Rachel Zoe speak, bananas. From the rotweilers to the plush-looking glasses right down to the jaw-dropping wrestler boots... I'm astounded. Also, the selection of models in every show are so inspiring and diverse. The men in his shows range from ebony to ivory and beyond. And let me take this opportunity to join Tavi in saying "relax, fashion." It's almost time for fall fashion week and I haven't even finished drooling over spring.

The Ringer
F21 faux leather jacket. Vintage sweater.
I took that sporty/collegiate/genius combo from Watanabe's show and applied it to my new favorite vintage sweater. Love the blue rings around the neck, waist and wrists.

Dandy
Vintage blazer, sweater, and shoes. F21 jeans.
Sorry for the abundance of photos featuring these jeans lately. I think I've worn blue jeans more this year than the entire year of 2009. Insane. Found this vintage blazer the other day and took it out for a spin today. It has those cute little suede patches on the elbows that bring images of A) hobos and B) equestrians to mind.

Junya Watanabe A/W 11

I am OBSESSED with this entire collection. It's exactly what I want to look like right now (and for a while) with great uses of color and texture throughout. Plus, the men in this show are a plus too (notice: man in second photo.)
